During the preparation of ceramics, adding hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) can improve the performance and processing technology of ceramic materials.
1. Adding HEC can improve the viscosity and stability of ceramic slurry. Due to its high molecular weight and rich hydroxyl functional groups, it forms a large number of hydrogen bonds in aqueous solution and forms a covering layer with the surface of particles, thereby increasing the interaction between slurry particles, making the slurry denser and more uniform, and less prone to precipitation or stratification.
2. Adding HEC can also improve the plasticity and forming properties of ceramic products. Due to HEC's excellent water absorption and expansion properties and good bonding effect, the original powder particles can be more easily softened, expanded and formed into a flexible and plastic state after wet treatment during the preparation process; at the same time, it can also reduce problems such as shrinkage rate and shrinkage cracks, and keep the overall structure of the product intact during drying and calcining.
3. Adding HEC also plays a positive role in improving the surface finish and anti-permeability of ceramic products. By adjusting the content of HEC in the slurry and the molecular weight, the surface texture of the product can be micro-controlled, thereby improving the appearance quality of the product and reducing the probability of cracking; it can also prevent water vapor from penetrating into the interior and improve the fire resistance of the product.
4. Adding hydroxyethyl cellulose is of great significance for improving the properties of the ceramic material itself and the processing technology. However, it is necessary to pay attention to the reasonable control of the dosage and combine it with other additives to maximize its advantages.
