1. Thickening effect
Hydroxyethyl cellulose is a commonly used thickener in latex paint. It can increase the viscosity of latex paint, making it easier to operate during construction. For example, when using a brush or roller to paint a wall, the thickened latex paint can adhere to the tool better and will not flow or drip too quickly, making it easier for construction workers to evenly apply the latex paint on the wall surface.
The thickening effect can also prevent solid components such as pigments and fillers from settling during storage. Latex paint usually contains pigments and fillers such as titanium dioxide and calcium carbonate. If these components precipitate, the quality of the latex paint will be uneven. Hydroxyethyl cellulose can keep these solid components stably suspended in the paint liquid, ensuring that the composition and performance of the latex paint remain consistent each time it is used.
2. Improved leveling
Hydroxyethyl cellulose helps improve the leveling of latex paint. During the painting process, good leveling allows the latex paint to flow naturally on the wall surface and form a flat and smooth coating film. It can reduce brush marks and roller marks on the surface of latex paint, making the final coating effect of the wall more beautiful.
3. Enhanced water retention
For latex paint, water retention is an important property. During the wall painting process, hydroxyethyl cellulose can prevent the water in the latex paint from being absorbed or volatilized too quickly by the wall. This is very important for the drying process of latex paint. If the water evaporates too quickly, the latex paint may not be fully cured, resulting in a decrease in the quality of the coating film, such as cracking, powdering and other problems. Good water retention can give the latex paint enough time to dry and cure on the wall surface to form a high-quality coating film.
4. Improve pigment dispersion
It can help the pigment to be better dispersed in latex paint. In the production process of latex paint, the degree of pigment dispersion directly affects the color uniformity and hiding power of the coating film. Hydroxyethyl cellulose wraps the pigment particles to prevent them from agglomerating together, so that the pigment can be evenly distributed in the paint liquid. In this way, after painting, the wall can obtain a more uniform color and good hiding effect.
