Hydroxyethyl Cellulose * Indoor Textured Paint

Textured paint is a common interior decoration material with rich surface effects and good decorative properties. In the production process, hydroxyethyl cellulose is added to textured paint mainly to improve its construction performance, adhesion and wear resistance, and enhance the overall decorative effect.

Ⅰ. Thickening effect

1. Suspended solid particles: Indoor textured paints usually contain textured particles such as sand particles and mica flakes. Hydroxyethyl cellulose can increase the viscosity of the paint and prevent these solid particles from settling. For example, in textured paints containing quartz sand, it can evenly distribute the sand particles throughout the paint system, ensuring that the texture of the paint applied each time is consistent during storage and use.

2. Control construction thickness and texture: Thickened textured paints are easier to control construction thickness. When using a scraper or spatula for construction, appropriate viscosity can make the paint accumulate the required texture, such as imitation marble, imitation brick, etc., and it will not be unable to maintain its shape due to the paint being too thin, nor will it be difficult to apply due to being too thick.

Ⅱ. Improved rheology

1. Convenient construction operation: Hydroxyethyl cellulose can give indoor textured paints good rheology. During the construction process, when subjected to shear force (such as stirring, applying), the viscosity of the paint will temporarily decrease, which is convenient for operation. For example, when stirring, the paint can be mixed more evenly and applied more smoothly. When the shear force disappears, the viscosity will be restored, so that the paint can maintain the texture it has been shaped. For example, when making three-dimensional patterns, it can ensure that the patterns will not be deformed due to the flow of paint.

2. Optimize the spraying effect: For textured paints that are applied by spraying, it can adjust the spraying state of the paint. After spraying, the paint can be evenly attached to the wall and other surfaces, and form a natural and beautiful texture effect, avoiding nozzle blockage or uneven spraying of particles.

III. Water retention performance

1. Ensure film quality: In the film formation process of indoor textured paints, the slow loss of water is very important. Hydroxyethyl cellulose can form a water-retaining layer on the surface of the paint, slowing down the evaporation of water. The binder (such as emulsion) in the textured paint needs to be in an appropriate moisture environment to make the particles bond and form a continuous film. If the water is lost too quickly, the binder cannot fully function, which may cause the coating to peel off or the particles to fall off.

2. Adapt to different environmental conditions: In different indoor environments (such as dry air-conditioned rooms or well-ventilated rooms), its water retention properties help textured paints to form films better and reduce the phenomenon of poor film formation caused by dry environment, thereby ensuring the quality and decorative effect of textured paints.

IV. Enhanced stability

1. Extended shelf life: During the storage of textured paints, hydroxyethyl cellulose helps maintain the stability of the system. It can prevent the separation of textured particles and emulsions, so that the paint can remain in a uniform state after being stored for a period of time. For example, it prevents sand particles from settling to the bottom and emulsions from floating on top, ensuring that the performance of the paint is not affected and effectively extending the shelf life.

2. Resist microbial damage: It can also enhance the resistance of textured paints to microorganisms to a certain extent. Various microorganisms may exist in the indoor environment. Hydroxyethyl cellulose in textured paints can reduce the chance of microbial growth, avoid paint deterioration and odor, and maintain the original performance of the paint.
