Hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) is a white or slightly yellow, free-flowing powder, which is prepared by etherification reaction of alkaline cellulose and ethylene oxide (or chloroethanol), and belongs to non-ionic soluble cellulose ethers. Due to its good thickening, suspension, dispersion, emulsification, adhesion, film formation, moisture protection and protective colloid properties, hydroxyethyl cellulose has been widely used in the fields of oil extraction, coatings, construction, medicine and food, textiles, papermaking and polymer polymerization.

Product Features 

  1. Hydroxyethyl cellulose is soluble in hot or cold water, and does not precipitate at high temperature or boiling, which makes it have a wide range of solubility and viscosity characteristics, and non-thermal gelation;

  2. Since hydroxyethyl cellulose is a non-ionic cellulose ether, HEC solution is usually compatible with most water-soluble polymers, and is compatible with other cellulose ethers, starch and its derivatives, gelatin, natural gum, etc. Hydroxyethyl cellulose is incompatible with tannic acid, certain phenols and special complex salts (such as sodium molybdate phosphate). Hydroxyethyl cellulose coexists with surfactants and salts, and is an excellent colloidal thickener for solutions containing high concentrations of electrolytes;

  3. The water retention capacity of hydroxyethyl cellulose is twice that of methyl cellulose, and it has good flow regulation.

  4.  Compared with the recognized methyl cellulose and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, the dispersion capacity of hydroxyethyl cellulose is the worst, but the protective colloid capacity is the strongest.

  5.  Viscosity and shear rate of hydroxyethyl cellulose solution. The medium and high viscosity HEC solution is non-Newtonian, showing a high degree of pseudoplasticity, and the viscosity is affected by the shear rate. At low shear rates, the molecular arrangement of HEC is irregular, resulting in high-viscosity chain entanglements, which provide viscosity. At high shear rates, the molecules become oriented with the flow direction, reducing the resistance to flow, and the viscosity decreases with the increase of shear rate. Therefore, hydroxyethyl cellulose is widely used in oil fields.

  6. The temperature effect of hydroxyethyl cellulose. When the solution temperature rises, its viscosity will decrease, and this process is reversible.

5. Store in cool, dry, and clean conditions, keep away from heat to aviod spread burning with oxygen.
